Pool pump and filter equipment pad being repaired by an A&V Pool Service technician

Equipment repair without the runaround

When the pump goes quiet or the water stops moving, algae is only days behind in South Florida heat. We diagnose the actual failure — motor, impeller, seal, capacitor, valve, timer, automation or plumbing — and tell you plainly whether repairing or replacing makes more sense for your pool and your budget.

We work on the major equipment brands, including Pentair, Hayward and Jandy, source parts locally, and get most repairs done in a single visit. After-hours calls are available when the situation cannot wait.

A&V Pool Service is a licensed Florida pool contractor (CPC1456836). That means the same company can diagnose the problem, do the plumbing or equipment work, and get the pool back into balance afterward — without handing you off to someone else.

Common repairs

What usually breaks on South Florida pools

Heat, salt air, hard water and summer lightning are rough on pool equipment. These are the repairs we do most often.

Pumps that hum, scream or won't prime

A humming motor that will not start often has a failed capacitor; a screaming one usually has worn bearings. A pump that will not prime usually has an air leak at the lid, O-ring or suction plumbing.

Variable-speed pump upgrades

Federal efficiency rules in effect since 2021 mean most replacement pool pumps are now variable-speed. They cost more up front but usually use far less electricity, and we help you set the right speeds.

Heat pumps and heaters

Heat pumps are the norm here. We diagnose low refrigerant symptoms, failed fans, flow-switch faults and scale build-up, and tell you when a unit is worth fixing.

Salt cells that stop making chlorine

Hard water scales salt cells fast. Many 'dead' cells just need cleaning; others have reached the end of their life. We test before you buy a new one.

Storm and lightning damage

Power surges during summer storms take out control boards, timers and automation. We track down what failed and what still works.

Leaks at the equipment pad

Dripping unions, cracked valve bodies and weeping pump seals waste water and let air in. They are usually quick fixes once found. Hidden leaks go to our leak detection team.

How we work

From call to fixed

Tell us the symptom

Call or text what you are seeing and hearing. Photos of the equipment pad and any error codes help us arrive with the right parts.

Diagnose and quote

We find the real cause and give you a clear price, including an honest repair-versus-replace recommendation.

Repair and rebalance

We complete the repair, test the system, and make sure the water chemistry has not drifted while the equipment was down.

Protect your equipment

How to make pool equipment last in Florida

  • Keep water balanced

Low pH and alkalinity corrode heater exchangers and pump seals; high calcium scales them. Balanced water is the cheapest equipment protection there is.

  • Watch filter pressure

A pressure gauge reading 8–10 psi above its clean level means the filter needs attention and the pump is working harder than it should.

  • Shade and ventilate the pad

Motors hate heat. Keep plants and clutter away from the equipment so it can breathe.

  • Surge protection

A surge protector on the pool sub-panel is inexpensive insurance against summer lightning.

FAQ

Pool repair questions

Should I repair or replace my pool pump?

It depends on the age of the pump, what failed and your electricity use. A new capacitor or seal on a fairly new pump is usually worth it. An old single-speed pump with a failed motor is often a good time to switch to a variable-speed model. We explain both options with prices before you decide.

Do you offer emergency pool repair?

Yes. After-hours emergency service is available for problems that cannot wait, such as a pump failure before a holiday weekend or a major leak.

Which brands do you repair?

We service the major pool equipment brands, including Pentair, Hayward and Jandy pumps, filters, heaters, salt systems and automation, and we source parts locally.

Why does my pool pump hum but not start?

The most common cause is a failed start capacitor. It can also be seized bearings or a jammed impeller. Turn the pump off at the breaker to protect the motor and call us.

My salt system says low salt, but I just added salt. Why?

A scaled or worn-out salt cell often reads low even when the salt level is fine. We test the actual salt level and the cell before recommending a cleaning or replacement.

Are you licensed to do pool repairs in Florida?

Yes. A&V Pool Service holds Florida pool contractor license CPC1456836 and is insured.

Do you repair pool lights?

Yes. We replace failed pool and spa lights, including upgrades to LED, and check the fixture seal so water does not get into the light niche.
